This article holds that humanism already appeared and propagated in Britain in the late 14th century and that Geoffrey Chaucer is a famous humanist of Britain. The rising bourgeoisie and the townspeople turned out to be the fertile land for the growth of Chaucer's humanistic thinking, and meanwhile Italian Humanism provided guidance for Chaucer and enabled him to break through the medieval bondage and became the great forerunner of British Renaissance. Chaucer served as a historical connecting link between the medieval Britain and Renaissance.
