鲍照的山水诗大都状写长江中下游地区的山光水色。前期之作比较矫健、峭拔、雄浑， 着意于具体物象的刻画与审美观照。后期的山水诗境界沉郁、险峻、悲凉， 经旅途之辛苦， 仕途之酸楚， 感人生之多艰， 社会之不平， 化景物为情思， 独构意象，

Bao Zhao composed many poems portraying the landscape along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, of which the earlier ones are grand with the emphasis on details and the later ones melancholic reflecting the twists and turns of his life and working experience.
