王应麟著述丰富,《通鉴地理通释》为其最具代表性的地理学成果;该书是第一部《通鉴》地理学研究专著,在疆域沿革和历史军事地理学方面成就显著,其撰著体例及考察史地之法对后世学者影响较大,在辑佚、校勘等方面亦相当有价值;该书也存在阅读和使用难度大、引用史料不够严谨、考史有误、重复及错、讹、衍、脱等问题。

Wang Ying-lin has written a lot of works and Tong Jian Di Li Tong Shi is the most representative geographical achievement.The book is the first Zi Zhi Tong Jian geographical research monograph,with prominent achievements in territory evolution and military and historic geography.Its writing style and the method of historic and geographical investigating exert a great influence on later scholars,also quite valuable in compiling,collating,etc.The book has some defects： Reading and using is difficult,historical data quotation is not rigorous enough,historical data verification is wrong,repeated,faulty,erroneous,etc.
