The Study on the Translation of Four Generations under One Roof and Ida Pruitt's Cultural Identity

本文从译者文化身份的角度对《四世同堂》英译和译者浦爱德展开研究:首先,结合一定的历史文献资料和传记文学文本,从近代美国来华传教士子女群体和浦爱德个人经历背景分析她文化身份中的群体因素和个人因素;其次,把《四世同堂》的翻译视作浦爱德建构其文化身份的文化实践,从文本内外来分析《四世同堂》的翻译如何体现她建构这种身份的诉求。

The paper discusses the translation of Four Generations under One Roof and the translator Ida Pruitt from the perspective of translator＇ s cultural identity. Based on related historical literature and biography literature, it analyzes the collective and individual factors of Ida＇ s cultural identity in the light of the characteristics of China＇ s American Missionary Kids and her personal experiences, and then, after a thorough analysis of the translation text itself＂ and other related materials, it explores the way how Ida tried to construct her cultural identity in the translation process.
