王弼对世界存在普遍原理的追问展现在多个方面,认为世界万事万物的存在以"无"为根据,万事万物的运行遵从自然原则;对于人类社会,同样强调自然原则对于人类规范制度的创立具有本源意义,肯定了自然原则对于人类社会具有普遍的适用性,该观点被总结为"名教本于自然"。将自在的物质世界的运行规律规定为自为的人类世界的行为规则,其理论前提是包括人类社会历史与人类思维在内的人类世界与物质世界之间存在着一种共同适用的普遍规律。

Wang Bi represents his questions on the universality of the world in many ways, such as ＂Wu＂ determines the existence of everything in the universe, and the motion of everything follows the natural law. Wang Bi also points out the meaning of the natural law to the form of the norm, and he defines that the natural law is universally applicable to the human society. This viewpoint is named ＂norm based on nature＂. It is affirmed that the law of the material world is the rule of the human society and the basic theory is that there has common law between the material world and the human society.
