An increasing number of "new women" images have been created in the works of overseas Chinese female writers since the late 1990s,which is challenging the deep-rooted and "set" views of the western societies towards oriental women. This paper aims to discuss and explore the complicated image and cultural identity of those seemingly untraditional "new women" by focusing on two well-received novels of two overseas Chinese female writers,Hong Ying and Guo Xiaolu.
