This thesis makes an analysis of women figures in Ernest Hemingway's representative work Farewell to Arms with an attempt to prove his misogyny complex by adopting the approaches of Feminism as well as Freudianism. In Hemingway's works, women are objectified as symbol of male desires and projected into the man's needfulness. In Farewell to Arms, such tendency is expressed between the lines.According to the approach commonly identified as psychological and Freudian,Hemingway's fictions should be interpreted in the context of family quarrels and on the assumption that his mother,Grace,is a destructive person who destroys her husband and the happy home life. And His detesting for his mother can indicate the reason why women keep silent in his fiction.Through the lens of language,Hemingway distorted women figures in his fiction and exaggerated their dangers as hoodoos, and thus women in his fictions are always regarded as the symbol of death and pain rather than life and joy.
