The development of International Terrestrial Reference Frame and its relationship to IGS are described in this paper, and the role of ITRF in the definition and maintenance of national coordinate systems are discussed too. Finally, the role of ITRF in definition and maintenance of China national geocentric coordinate systems is prospected.
