Justification for Marcel's“Reading First”

As one of the outstanding figures in the pre-Reform Movement in the nineteenth century,Marcel was known to us by his fa-mous proposal of"reading first".However,he and his proposal were unfairly neglected by his contemporaries and his successors.In fact,thisproposal was based on a rational theory of reading: the cognitive process of reading and the distinction between impression and expression.This proposal is worth attending to afresh.
