The motif of loneliness and melancholy is effectively expressed by the vivid use of a multitude of metaphors. The poem ＂l（ a＂ is studied from the perspectives of ontological metaphor, phonetic metaphor, metaphor of concrete poetry and synaesthetic metaphor. It is found that what an important role metaphor plays in poetry.
