Based on the biographical record of Joseph Conrad, this paper interprets Conrad's views on women with a particular study of his novel Nostromo. The analysis shows that Conrad is not a male-chauvinist.As a novelist concerns about morality,Conrad creates pure women in his novels to show how the male characters are degraded into the moral darkness because of the temptation of materialism and the desire for a good fame.In contrast, female characters exert powerful moral influence. They, with the typical example of Amelia, are a reflection of Conrad's moral principles.
