A Tentative Analysis on the Translation of Names in Strange Tales from Make-do Studio from the Perspective of Domestication and Foreignization

结合实例从归化和异化角度,剖析美国学者Denis.C&Victor H.Mair所译Strange Tales from Make do Studio(英译本《聊斋志异选》)一书中人名的翻译方法;在文化翻译中,归化和异化作为两种翻译策略是对立统一、相辅相成的,应视具体文化差异情况灵活运用,以更好地传递文化信息,促进文化交流。

More and more scholars are paying increasing attention to the study and translation of Chinese classical literary masterpieces.As an ancient classic,Strange Tales covers rich cultural information.Its various characters and different names make the translation of names become an important project for translation.In order to make the foreign readers know more about the cultural information in the Strange Tales,this article will illustrate the instances from the view of domestication and foreignization to analyze the translation of names in Strange Tales from Make-do Studio translated by two American scholars Denis.C Victor H.Mair.Domestication and foreignization should be complementary to each other in the translation.In translation,what we should adopt depends on the specific cultural differences so as to disseminate culture and promote cultural communication.
