Objective:To investigate the effect of Pinelliae Decoction for Purging Stomach-Fire on mucous membrane structure of esophagus, intercellular adhesion-molecule-1 among cells and L-selectin in the rat model of experimental reflux esophagitis. Methods :160 rats were divided into four groups, which were sham operated group, model control group, Chinese medical group and western medical group. There were 40 rats in each group. Pathological grading of the esophagus mucous membrane in each group was observed with light microscope. And the expression of intercellular adhesion-molecule-1 and L-selectin were detected with immunohistochemistry. Results:The pathological grading of the esophagus mucous membrane in Chinese medical group and western medical group were better than that in model control group (u= 7.135 6,7.271 9, P = 0. 000 0), but there was not significant differ- ence between Chinese medical group and western medical group. Immunohistochemistry showed that the expressions of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 and L-selectin in interstitial vascular endothelial cells of esophageal submucosa and muscle layer were strong in model control group, but weak in Chinese medical group and western medical group, and negative in sham operated group. Conclusion:Pinelliae Decoction for Purging Stomach-Fire can help relieve esophageal mucosa injury, and reduces the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 and L-selectin.
