Criteria for Distinguishing Complements and Adjuncts

语法界关于补足语与嫁接语区分标准问题还停留在模糊的理论讨论的层面之上,缺乏明确的有可操作性的界定标准。在生成理论框架之下讨论了区分补足语和嫁接语的必要性和理论意义。在回顾前人对补足语与嫁接语的不同句法语义行为特征进行观察的基础之上,结合前移、准分裂结构、VP省略、VP前置等句法现象和句法结构,构建了六个具有可操作性的区分标准。

The distinguishing criteria of complements and adjuncts still rest on the level of fuzzy theoretical discussion in the field of grammar,lacking definite operability and defining criteria.This paper discusses the necessity and significance of distinguishing complements and adjuncts within the generative theoretical framework.Based upon the predecessor linguists＇ observation and discussion of syntactic and semantic behaviors of complement/adjunct,combined with such syntactic phenomena and constructions as fronting,the pseudocleft construction,VP ellipsis,VP fronting and so on,six practical operational distinguishing criteria are elicited and constructed.
