杨慎强调文质并重,其中质起着决定性的作用。同时,他也十分注重文采的修饰。杨慎重视文法,他特别指出古人作文不厌其复、状物传神等特点,他对古人作文中引用方式的梳理,也具有重要的启示意义。此外,杨慎对陆机《文赋》中"警策"一词的内涵提出了自己独特的看法,但存在商榷之处。

Yang Shen emphasized the importance of both language and writing style, among which writing style plays a decisive role. In the meantime, he attached importance to the decorations of literary grace. He emphasized grammar and pointed out that the ancient people were not tired of repetition and vivid descriptions. He sorted the quotation style in the writing of the ancient people, which is also of important implication. Besides, Yang Shen offered his special views about the word of ＂Jing Ce＂ in Wen Fu by Lu Ji, but his views are worth of discussing.
