On February 6, Catalan painter and sculptor Antoni Ta＇pies died in Barcelona at the age of 88. Initiallyinfluenced by the Surrealist circle, Ta＇pies later gained renown for his oft-abstract, always tactile surfaces or ＂matter paintings＂ created with then- atypical objects and materials.
