为了适应改革开放的新形势，我国世界近代史教学和研究工作必须进行改革。在世界近代史研究工作改革中，要明确“三个面向”的指导思想；按照马克思主义的立场、观点和方法分析问题、解决问题；拓宽研究内容；深入探讨重大课题；在研究具体问题时坚持实事求是的原则；采取多种多样的成果表现形式，充分发挥史学的社会功能。同时，史料的搜集整理工作也要进一步加强，教材编写要不断创新。

We must carry on reforms both on modern world history researches and teaching in order to meet the new situation of reform and open policy. In the reform process of modern world history researches,we must be sure of the'Three Faces'guiding ideology; Andalso We must deal with research problems and widen research field and study hard on important academic problems according to Marxism standing point; In addition, we must insist on the principle of seeking truth from facts and display our achievements in varied forms in order to show the full social function of history. In the meanwhile,we should strengthen the work on collecting materials,and write new teaching books.
