In The Age of Wonders, the Jewish writer Aharon Appelfeld, with a sad tone and from a 12-year-old boy's perspective, describes an Austrian Jewish family' s anxiety, unrest, and decline at the outbreak of World War II. From the description of the family' s sufferings under special historical circumstances, readers can truly feel the terror that Jews suffered in Europe. Meanwhile, the author tells readers that the period of history is just like evil spirits that still linger over time. Europe is still a familiar foreign land for Jews. Their return is not a broad way.
