法律文本中“可以”一词英译现状研究

Study on the Translation of “Keyi” in Legal Text

由于其自身语言的规约性,法律语言的翻译要遵循精确、统一和简洁六字准则。研究发现原立法文本中"可以"一词存在语义差异,而相应的英译多没有注意含义的不同,造成译文的含义与原立法文本的理解存在不同程度的差异。

Translation of legal text should follow the principle of accuracy, unity and brevity because of its prescription. With the help of Parallel Corpus of China＇ s Law Documents, the present study has probed into semantic meaning of each ＂Keyi＂, and found that some wrong English translations existed in the law documents, which have caused and will still cause many misunderstandings of the legal text.
