Overseas Chinese in Late Qing Dynasty and the Construction of Zhangxia Railway

漳厦铁路是福建省历史上第一条铁路。在清末吸引侨资、实业救国的大背景下,广大爱国华侨对这条铁路倾注了许多的心血和汗水。他们不仅和国内民众一道促成了这条铁路的修建,而且投入了大部分的资本。虽然华侨们的努力没有取得预期的效果,但他们对这条铁路的重要贡献是值得肯定的。

：Zhangxia railway came as the first one in the history of Fujian Province. Against the background ofQing government attracting investment of overseas Chinese and the campaign of rescuing the country by investing in industries, overseas Chinese dedicated a lot of efforts full of blood and sweat in the building of thisrailway. They not only, together with the people helping to materialize the construction, but also put in a large amount of capital. Although their efforts achieved much less than what they had expected, their contribution tothis railway shall be recognized.
