Group oral practice is often utilized in college English classes. It helps to boost students＇ oral efficiency if applied properly. However,this teaching method also has deficiencies. This paper analyzes severalof these common deficiencies of group oral practice in college English classes, and it also attempts to explore the corresponding practical strategies for improvement from several aspects including the optimum positioningof the members of a practice group, deciding on the number of members in a group, the principles governing the composition of a group, the co-existence mode of group oral practice and regular English lectures, and thecreating of a suitable environment for in-class impromptu oral practice.
