Soundscapes is one of the students' favorites among the Harvard GEN ED courses and its success lies in the incorporation of the principal idea of the new GEN ED through its curriculum design, description and classroom instruction and its aim to teach"students to understand themselves as products of—and participants in—traditions of art, ideas, and values." More importantly, its transition from artistic education to aesthetic education can provide Chinese educators some enlightening guidance.Taking one lecture titled"Crossing Cultural Boundaries through Dance"as an example, this paper tries to show how the lecturer gradually leads the audience to perceive the expressive force of dance,Nihon Buyo and Bhangra so as to promote their aesthetic and interpretive understanding and cultural awareness.
