Imaging through Atmospheric Turbulence Using Kolmogorov and Gaussian Statistics

摘要 Computer simulations were carried out to investigate the limitations imposed by Gaussian and Kolmogorov atmospheric turbulence on observing astronomical objects via ground based optical telescopes. These limitations were studied in terms of the point spread function of a reference star and the autocorrelation function of a binary star. Quantitative comparative assessments demonstrate the superiority of Kolmogorov approach.
