This paper introduces five kinds of spoken Chinese textbooks, which are translated and adapted by the transla- tors from different countries, and explores their representative works in the Qing Dynasty. Moreover, this paper discusses the status of the textbooks in the history of teaching Chinese as a second language, as well as the history of translation in China.
