Anne Bradstreet not only created the tradition of writing good poems by women in the history of American literature, but also shared with Edward Taylor the glory of best poetic achievements made in the first half century in the colonial period of north America. Anne Bradstreet, however, as a woman poet against the religious and social background of Puritanism, has been considered as "a cultural rebel. " The argument, therefore, has been made in this paper through close readings of some of her poems so as to discuss the Puritan ideology in general, to explore the woman poet's worries and concerns about life, and to reveal the way of life of this so-called "cultural rebel".
