The Handicraft Industry in the Realm of Yan of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty

东周时期,今北京及附近地区的燕地手工业生产继续发展。手工业生产范围更加广泛,专业分工和手工业内部分工更加细密。冶铁、煮盐、漆器等成为新兴的手工业部门,尤其是冶铁业已成为最主要的手工业部门。其他重要的手工业部门有青铜冶铸、金银器加工、兵器制造、制陶、铸币业等。

At the time of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, in the realm of Yan, now Beijing and its surrounding areas, handicraft industry was continuing on developing. Its production range widened, and the divisions of labor based on specialization and within the industry became more subtle. The iron-smelting industry, boiled salt industry and lacquer ware industry became the emerging handicraft branches, especially the iron-smelting industry, which had become a major handicraft branch. Other important handicraft branches are bronze casting, gold and silver processing, weapon manufacture, art pottery and currency industry.
