Wild City:on the Metaphor Experience

Many metaphorical interpretations of city may possibly illuminate how we characterize the city. The one I pursue here is wild metaphor, which is a dark metaphor. At the same time, in characterizing the city, wilderness does not denote a neutral object but is rather a cultural construction object. Exploring what wilderness means and how it functions tells us something about the culture that uses it, as well as comments on urban experience. And exploring wilderness in this context also tells us something about the nature and function of metaphor, in general. This essay pursues the idea of wilderness from three directions.
