摘要
近年来随着生物信息数据的爆炸性增长,管理数据的数据库建设就变得极为重要,甚至成为当代基于各种"组学"的生物学研究的瓶颈步骤。本文通过对通用生物模型数据库(GMOD)系统进行研究和分析,对其发展的过程、主要特点、结构框架等方面进行了系统的分析总结,并重点对该系统的3个重要应用模块:Chado、GBrowse和Apoll,从特点、结构、功能等各个方面进行了详细介绍。最后我们对GMOD应用模块在不同生物信息数据库中的使用情况进行了收集、整理和分类,以方便研究人员借鉴参考。通过以上工作,我们希望为国内广大生物科技研究人员介绍这套国际通用的数据库建立方法和工具,方便研究人员对生物信息数据进行管理和分析,推动GMOD在中国的使用以及生物信息学在中国的发展。
With the deluge of biological data and information in recent years,the construction and management of databases becomes extremely important,and even the bottle-neck in biological research and development,which is particularly true for the modern"omics-based"biology.There are many different solutions and applications for biological databases.This paper introduced the Generic Model Organism Database(GMOD)system.First introduced in details the history,features and structure of GMOD.Then focused on the three most important modules of GMOD:Chado,GBrowse and Apollo,and analyzed their features,structure and functionalities.In addition,provided a detailed list of commonly used biological databases that were built with GMOD modules as a reference for researchers.Through this work,aimed to introduce to Chinese researchers the many benefits of building biological databases using GMOD,including powerful yet user-friendly features and modules,open source architecture,a wide international user base,and community support.We hope this paper can contribute to the wide adoption of the GMOD system,and the development of the field of bioinformatics in China.
