The life and death of his mentor, Socrates, was the main influence on Plato＇s philosophy.Socrates was a charismatic1 figure who attracted a crowd of wealthy young Athenians around him. He did not leave any writing but exerted influence through his conversations in the marketplace. He claimed not to have any doctrine to teach, but rather, through a series of pointed2 questions, would demonstrate howlittle those he talked to really knew about such things as the nature of piety3, justice, or morality.
