Are Books and the Internet About to Merge?

据英国BBC新闻报道，有着244年辉煌历程的《大不列颠百科全书》宣布停止印刷纸质书，全面采用数字化发行。此消息一经发布立即引起广泛关注。近年来，以电脑、手机、电子阅读器为平台，以互联网为传播手段的电子书及电子杂志逐渐成为人们的阅读新宠。我们不禁再次思考：纸质书会消亡吗？

The difference between ebooks and the Internet is minimal, and we should be glad the two are growing closer and closer. It＇s easy to forget that the world wide web as we know it today evolved from an early attempt to put books on the Internet. When Tim Berners-Lee envisaged1 what would become the world wide web, it was with the idea of making academic papers and other documents widely available. To this end he devised a simple way of laying out text and images on a page, inventing what we now call Hypertext Markup Language or HTML.
