Dee in Dilemma:Postcolonial Study on Dee in Everyday Use

Alice Walker describes Dee as a black girl who is full of contradiction in her heart.Dee accepted white culture when she was young.The internalization of white culture leads her hatred and contempt to black culture.The contradiction between two different cultures in her heart makes her far away from her family.However,African American Civil Rights Movement encourages her to come back home to pursue the symbol of traditional black culture.She wanted to take the quilt away,but was refused by her mother.She goes too far away from her root because of the deep-rooted influence of white culture.The blind pursuit of black culture implies her embarrassment.
