Sarah Margaret Fuller is an outstanding thinker in the nineteenth century of American literary history.Her representative work Woman in the Nineteenth Century is a feminist treatise exploring the patriarchal society's bias on gender.Through this work,Fuller criticized the patriarchal oppression on women;and by going far beyond the bondage of traditional sexual bias,Fuller tried to redefine gender,based on which,she finally succeeded in making defense for womanly self-reliance.Fuller's radical feminist idea reflected in this book has directly aroused the then American women's self-consciousness,and laid a solid foundation for the later feminist development.
