Ma Benzhai in the Anti-Japanese War

七七事变爆发之后,马本斋先后组建大马乡团、回族抗日义勇队参加抗日运动,但因人少力单均告失败。1938年,中国共产党成立河北游击军回民教导队,马本斋被委任为队长,这支队伍参与了反日寇对冀中抗日根据地的第三次"扫荡"战争,取得了重要战绩,后改名为冀中军区回民支队。至此,冀中军区回民支队成立并由马本斋领导,其先后开展了挺进深南、围打康庄、巧取榆科、猛攻深泽、千顷洼突围等战役,奋勇杀敌,驰骋冀中,给日军以重创。然而不幸的是,1944年初,马本斋欲率军队奔赴延安时,由毒疮合并感染肺炎,不幸病逝,给人民留下了永远的遗憾。

After the outbreak of the July 7 Incident of 1937,Ma Benzhai set up Dama Township regiment and Hui nationality anti-Japanese volunteer teams to participate in the anti-Japanese movement,but these were all unsuccessful for the lack of manpower.In 1938,the Communist Party of China set up the guerrilla army of Hebei Hui Nationality training corps.Ma Benzhai was then appointed as captain.The team participated in the third Counter-Campaign against ＂Mopping Up＂ in anti-Japanese base areas in Mid-Hebei,making important strategic performance.The team later was renamed Hui Detachment of Mid-Hebei military area command.The Hui Nationality Detachment was thus set up and led by Ma Benzhai,which carried out several campaigns as advancing in Shennan,surrounding and attacking Kangzhuang,taking over Yuke,ferociously onslaughting Shenze and the breakthrough battle at Qianqingwa,bravely fighting and inflicting heavy casualties on the Japanese invaders through the Mid-Hebei areas.Unfortunately,Ma Benzhai died of canker merger-acquired pneumonia when leading the troops on the way to Yan＇an in early 1944,which left people with everlasting regret.
