摘要
This chapter addresses some of the fundamental issues involved in designing rich-prospect browsing interfaces, which are defined as those that combine a meaningful representation of every item in a collection with a number of emergent tools for manipulating the display. The goal of such interfaces is to support synthetic or browsing research tasks, where the user is attempting to sort, subset, and form connections between the items in a collection rather than retrieve a well-defined search target.Rich-prospect browsing strategies can also be applied at the level of the individual document, where the representation is of the document contents and the tools for manipulating the display facilitate activities relevant to the contents.
