摘要
就同那些有许多特定的基本观念的欧洲天主教堂一样,有一种恒定的象征性精神将印度地区的庙宇整合在一起,在这些庙宇之中还有丰富的建筑结构和多样化风格模式的雕塑作品。在本文中我将着重研究一种叫做“nagara”(注:nagara梵文“都城”译者自加)的寺庙。
'Desire in Stone','Illustrations of the Kamasutra,''Sex-temples of India'-such phrases,concocted by tour operators and publicists alikes,have long obscured the appreciation and understanding of the great temples of India.Yet the mature Indian temple arguably exhibits the most sophisticated interaction of structure and image ever produced in world architecture,and its artists carved some of the most exquisite and multivalent figural sculpture ever created.
