作为后殖民主义理论的大师,萨义德非常关注知识分子这一特殊的群体。萨义德是接受正规西方教育的巴勒斯坦裔,这种东、西方双重身份的交织使得他更为重视知识分子应有品行,更加关注知识分子的社会责任。他眼中知识分子具有独立的人格,他们具有批判意识,在公共场合代表弱势群体发出声音,他们处于流亡的隐喻状态,甘于脱离中心,处于边缘地位,是社会的边缘人和业余者,面对权势他们敢于讲真话,敢于表达自己的立场。

Said,the great master lived in the post-colonialist times,focuses his attention on the special group of intellectual He is a Pakistan American receiving formal Western-style education.He lay more stresses on the intellectuals＇ basic morality and their social responsibility.According to his opinion,intellectuals should possess independent personality and critical thinking,and be able to speak up the disadvantaged people＇s demands in public.They dare to tell the truth and declare their standpoints when facing those influential people.
