移民网络与贸易创造效应

Immigration Network and Trade Creation Effect

本文基于移民网络变量考察了中国与28个样本国的双边贸易流,通过标准模型(STD)和成本对称模型(STC)的识别发现,3组指标(累积规模、相对规模和技能型移民网络)较一致表明移民网络对中国对外贸易具有积极贡献;研究还发现移民网络的成本克服效应在新兴经济体(拉美和非洲)更为显著,即移民网络更为稀缺;而贸易创造的移民消费偏好效应在亚洲和北美更为突出,表明华侨移民集聚规模的重要性。

This paper examines bilateral trade flows between China and 28 sample countries with the consideration of immigration network.Through the identification of the standard model(STD) and the cost-symmetric model(STC),it finds that three indicators(cumulative scale,the relative size and skills-based immigration network) are more consistent to show that immigration network has a positive impact on China′s foreign trade.The study also finds that migration networks in some emerging economies(Latin America and Africa) have more significant cost-reduced effect,which means the immigration network is relatively scarce in those countries.Immigration networks with consumer preference effect plays its role in trade creation,and those effects are shown more prominent in Asia and North America.It indicates the importance of network scale of the overseas Chinese migrations.Note that China′s participation in the process of international competition is also accompanied by the regional diversification of the immigrations.Whether to develop trade with developed countries or emerging economies in future,China can take advantage of the Chinese immigration networks.
