Heidegger's interpretation of Hoelderlin has been a hot topic for debate among hard-core Heideggerians. The present thesis aims to pointing out the two main influences of the poetry of Hoelderlin on the later Heidegger. Firstly, it helps Heidegger to come into the construction of a duality of the world: the duo of the heaven and the earth; this formula is sharply different from his early understanding of the world characterized in his Being and Time. Secondly, the relationship between thought and poetry, the main theme of the concern of Being-language duality in the later Heidegger, proves to have originated from his constant conversation with the poetry of Hoelderlin. Hoelderlin's belief in the postulation of the status of a poet as a demi-god dictates Heidegger's ideal of poetry-thought interlocking. Its political implications and philosophical consequences may well be good food for our own thinking.
