《芒果街上的小屋》是美国一部成长小说。小说生动描绘了芝加哥移民社区里西语裔移民群落中一个羞涩而敏感的少女的成长经历,并通过女主人公埃斯佩朗莎特有的族裔、阶级及女性视角,展示了一种丰富而具有普遍性的成长体验。成长中感受的耻辱时刻是女主人公成长转折点;成长特有的渴望和梦想是成长的动力;自我身份的审视和认同是脱离童真、融入社会的标准。
The House on the Mango Street written by Sandra Cisneros is an initiation novel, which describes vividly the growth experience of a shy and sensitive girl in a Spanish-speaking in Chicago. The novel depicts a special and typical growing experience through the girl's community distinct vision of people, class and gender. This paper analyses the heroine's cognitive consciousness from the perspective of growth, illustrated by the choice of the turning points of growth, the revelation of de- sires and dreams and the seeking of the feminine identity. By revealing that the special obstruction of the feminine growth forces the heroine to pursuit her self-identity via resisting the social and psyche pressures, the paper indicates that the awareness and acknowledging of self-identity helps the hero- ine to experience the existence of self and to
