A Newly Discovered Material in Japan on the Biography of Wuzhun Shifan and Its Significance

有关无准师范生平的原始资料,至今为大家普遍熟知的主要有两种,一种是南宋禅僧道璨(?—1271)所撰的《径山无准禅师行状》;另一种是南宋文人刘克庄(1187—1269)所撰的《径山佛鉴禅师墓志铭》。本文关注由侍者德如所撰的《佛鉴无准禅师行状》。该行状原藏日本京都东福寺,现藏京都国立博物馆。本文主要从文献学的角度,在调查原件现况、形态的基础上,围绕本行状的形成背景、作者等问题进行一些基础性的探讨,并依其内容,举例说明本行状对无准生平研究的史料价值。

With regard to original data on the biography of Wuzhun Shifan(1177-1249),there are mainly two records known to us,namely The Biography of Zen Master Jingshan Wuzhun by Daocan(1214-1271);and The Epitaph of Zen Master Jingshan Fojian by Kezhuang Liu(1187-1269).This article presents a newly discovered material in Japan entitled The Biography of Zen Master Fojian.It is a manuscript handwritten by Deru,attendant of Wuzhun Shifan.It was originally kept at Toufukuji Temple in Kyoto,and now in Kyoto National Museum.From the philological perspective,this paper introduces the condition and form of the manuscript,and gives a preliminary analysis of its author and background of formation.Based on the content of this manuscript,the paper reveals its significance for the study of the life of Wuzhun Shifan.
