The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is one of the representative poems written by T. S. Eliot, the founder of American modernist poetry. The poem describes Prufrock, a mid-aged male intellectual, who is hesitant, needs love but doesn't dare to declare and claim it, and reveals the spiritual "wasteland" of the modem western society by referring to the typical images and cases in the Bible, Shakespeare's drama, Dante's Divine Comedy and so on. Intertextuality can be seen from the two aspects of "identity" and "irony" through quotations of To His Coy Mistress and Hamlet.
