This paper expounded that Ellen Wood, on the basis of historical materialism＇ s continuous analysis to the rela- tionship of economic and political realms, and in light of Athens＇ democracy, revealed the one-sidedness and falsity of capitalist democracy. Wood＇ s view is not only helpful for us to develop Marxist criticisms on capitalism in the new era, but also beneficial for us to reconsider socialist democracy and then construct socialist democratic system.
