Metonymic Ways in the Conceptualization of Time

时间是一个抽象概念,从认知到语言表征过程主要以隐喻和转喻方式实现。认知语言学的时间研究多从隐喻视角探讨时间概念化机制,时间的概念转喻没有得到应有关注。本文认为,转喻是时间概念化中不可或缺的一种认知手段,时间认知过程是把抽象的时间概念依附在一个较为具体的概念上而抽象出概念特征,与转喻概念化过程中的实体间映射原理相同,也是一个转喻过程,它通过时间与事件、时间与空间、运动时间与运动实体等之间的转喻实现。

Time is an abstract concept. The process of time perception and linguistic representation is mainly by means of metaphor and metonymy. In the study of time in cognitive linguistics, much attention has been given to the metaphorical thinking of time, while the metonymic way has been neglected. Hnwever, metonymy is a necessary device in the conceptualization of time. This paper argues that the cognitive process of time is similar to the conceptualization process of metonymy, and therefore a metonymie process, too, which is realized by metonymy between time and events, time and space, and time and motion entity.
