Right liver living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) including the middle hepatic vein was initiated in 1996 at Queen Mary Hospital by the University of Hong Kong. The use of right liver graft expands the applicability of LDLT in adults. Since 1996, the number of LDLT has increased in the world. LDLT can solve the problem of deceased-donor liver shortage. As long as donor safety is taken care of, LDLT remains a valuable operation for patients with terminal liver disease. The development of LDLT contributes to the recent progress of liver transplantation and liver resection surgery.
