本文用实例说明了 bowl与“碗”在指称对象和语用方面的异同 ,指出二者之间的语义关系是—种语义区别与语义非区别的关系 ,因而翻译时应灵活掌握。

The present papers shows, by actual examples, the similarities and differences between bowl and wan in their referents and functions. It then points out that the semantic relations between them is one of semantic differentiation and non differentiation, thus throwing some light on the choice of the right equivalents of this kind of words in the target language when translated from English into Chinese and vice versa.
