the functional theory of counterfactual thinking was different from the previous norm theory, mainly focused on the behavior regulation respect. The functional" theory put functional theory as a useful, beneficial and necessary component. This theory elab- orate behavioral regulation in two pathways, one was content-specific pathway, another was the con- tent-neutral pathways. Content-specific pathway thought the specific information from functional theory affected specific behavior, whereas content-neutral pathway deem functional theory affected mind-set, motivation, self-inference, and thus this three component would then modulate behavior. At the end of this paper, the author briefly discussed the latest academic study on this theory.
