Objective: To explore the effect of low oxygen concentration (5% O2 ) on the outcome of in vitro fertilization - em- bryo transfer (IVF- ET). Methods: The fertilization rate, cleavage rate, good quality embryo rate, embryo utilization rate and clinical pregnancy rate in IVF -ET under different culture environments (5% O2 and 20% O2 ) were evaluated. Results: Higher good quality embryo rate and clinical pregnancy rate were found in the low oxygen concentration group ( P 〈 0.01 ). There were no significant differences in the fertilization rate, cleavage rate and embryo utilization rate between the two groups ( P all 〉 0.05 ). Conclusion : Low oxygen concentrations maybe more suitable culture condition for early stage of human em- bryos during the first 3 days of in vitro development.
