摘要
本文以言语交际中的情态助动词will为研究对象,借助语料,分析在不同语境条件下的模糊限制功能:缓和话语语气;提高话语的客观性;使话语更具有关联性。
The present paper focuses its attention on the hedging function of the modal verb CAN in verbal interaction. After the analysis of the collected data in English it is found that modal verb CAN can make words more polite, more expressive and more relevant. Such a study from a microperspective might be helpful to get a better understanding of the hedging function of such modal verbs as will in different contexts and use them appropriately in actual verbal communications.
