托马斯.哈代诗歌中大量运用对话形式进行诗行的组织和表达。诗人巧妙地安排叙述者和受述者进行对话,其诗歌的对话性叙事中受述者主要有四种:一是其叙述者与诗歌中人物的对话;二是其叙述者与诗歌中事物的对话;三是其叙述者与诗人自我的对话;四是其叙述者与潜在的读者对话。诗人在诗歌中插入不同的角色和声音,通过不同叙事层面的交流,进而深化诗歌的主题。
Thomas Hardy frequently uses the form of dialogue narrative for the organization and expression in his poems. He has tactically arranged the dialogue between the narrator and the narratee. There are four types of narratees in the dialogue narrative in Hardy ＇ s poetry： the dialogue between the narrator and the characters; the dialogue between the narrator and the objects; the dialogue between the narrator and poet himself; the dialogue between the narrator and the potential readers. The poet inserted different roles and voices into the poems. Through the interaction among different narrative levels, the themes of poems are deepened.
