The Differences and Translation of Idioms Between English and Chinese from Cultural Perspective

语言、文化与翻译之间相互依存、相互影响。习语是语言中的精华。英汉习语源远流长,包含着丰富的文化特征和文化背景。习语的翻译不仅是语言信息的转换,更是文化信息的传递。文章借助于奈达对语言文化的分类,从文化角度比较英汉习语的差异,并在此基础上探讨英汉习语翻译的基本原则和方法。

Language, culture and translation are closely dependent on each other and inseparable. Idioms are the core of language. Both English and Chinese idioms have very long history and contain prolific cultural characteristics and background. Therefore, translation of idioms is not only the transfer of linguistic information, but also transfer of cultural information. This paper aims to compare English and Chinese idioms from the perspective of culture on the basis of the classification of language culture proposed by Nida, and try to study the basic principle and methods of the translation of English and Chinese idioms.
